A recent read of the Business Insider showed a very insteresting article discussing scientificically proven and tested theories that showed what makes you have a higher IQ than the average person.

Number 3 on that list, was if you took music lessons as a child.

This came as no surprise to me but I wanted to share it with you all!

I would like to add that learning music as an adult also has its benefits and particularly in old age. Learning to play music has shown great benefits in warding off dementia or Alzheimers and increasing general happiness and keeping loneliness at bay.

Have a look at the article itself (link at the bottom of the page) or check out the music specific section right here!

There are a number of studies demonstrating that musical training enhances verbal intelligence and executive function, a skill that’s critical to focus and self-control. In a study conducted by psychologist Sylvain Moreno, 48 children between the ages of four and six participated in a computerized training program that was led by a teacher.

For one hour per day, five days a week for four weeks, half the students completed a musical program, and the other half completed a visual arts program. At the end of the experiment, 90% of the children who received musical training showed improvements in verbal IQ. So, if you took music lessons when you were a kid, that’s a good sign.”
